Work From Home Business Avoiding a 'Crash and Burn' with effective business goals.

Let's assume you have already started your own work from home business because you recognize some of the many advantages to being a business owner.

In this article I'd like to offer some suggestions for building momentum and staying on track to achieve the success you have intended.

If you are like most people, soon after starting your business you likely began to encounter challenges and distractions. At first you likely have a very high level of motivation which has since seemed to dissipate. Even the simplest online marketing business now seems challenging&

Some people might misinterpret the lack of motivation as a sign that they made a bad decision to start their home based business. The fact is these feelings are normal. It is also true that these feelings can be, and should be re-ignited. This can be done in a number of ways.

As I've written about at length in other articles; knowing your core reasons why you decided to be a business owner is of paramount importance. This is where many new entrepreneurs have made a mistake.

Deciding to start a work from home business simply to make more money is not a sufficient reason to succeed. We must be passed the superficial reasons to determine the core values we are trying to satisfy.

For example, if the reason we decided to start a work from home business was because we were determined to raise our children in a better neighborhood, or to afford to send our kids to a particular expensive college because they want to be a doctor now we will beginning to tap into an ongoing source of powerful motivation.

This higher level of motivation is critical. That's because we will encounter business challenges and if the challenge encountered seems bigger than my reason to succeed - it's easy to quit. But, when you are crystal clear on your reasons to the point they become your Mission; you will be unstoppable.

Bottom line: These core reasons are very important to keep alive in your active awareness.

To help keep your motivation alive, it makes sense to set business goals. This helps identify targets which can help you create a defined plan. As you reach each goal you will get a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment which will help you remain motivated.

Successful business people, top level athletes, and all high achievers set goals. Goal setting can take some planning, but if you spend a little time you can develop challenging yet attainable ones. The following are some tips to help you with your business goal setting.

1. They must be written down. We may have permanent memory but we have lousy recall. They should be positive, specific and detailed. Example: I'm going to earn an additional $2,000.00 or more per month by my 4th month in my work from home business".

2. Keep a good attitude. You will have setbacks. It is more important to keep a good attitude regardless of setbacks you may encounter. Remember: there are no failures only 'feedback'.

3. They should be realistic but big enough for you to be passionate about it. You must believe it can be accomplished.

4. They should be measurable. Detail what you will achieve and by when. Use short term (one month), mid-range (3 months), long term goals (1 year), and long range (3-5 years) goals. Without a time frame there is no sense of urgency. A time frame engages your unconscious mind to start working on that business goal.

5. Set up an action plan. Set up a step by step action plan for each goal. Make the most critical action steps for that day be your most important element for that day - and do them first.

6. Have accountability. Knowing you are accountable to someone will motivate you. A mentor or coach is best; but whomever you use (like a friend) make sure they will 'hold your feet to the fire'. Finally, we do not recommend using your spouse for your accountability coach.

7. Review your goals and the progress you are making often. Celebrate hitting milestones.

8. Work your plan in sequential order. For example: Do not worry about generating traffic to your website before you've decided on a domain name or have you website set up.

9. Never give up. You dont have to be perfect, it is more important to be consistent in your actions. Revise your action plan if you are not meeting your business goals. Sometimes you need to take a few steps back to move forward again. Soon goal setting will become habit and a powerful tool to add to your collection.

Knowledge without action is worthless. My last suggestion is to review your business goals and decide now to take at least one element from this article and take action to implement it into your work from home business today.
